Weekly Wrap Up – Round 6

Summary

It was a lighter weekend, with the Men’s Premier Division, Women’s Premier Division and U19.5s all enjoying a bye round. MD6 delivered an impressive performance with a dominant win over Southern Power, continuing their strong form and teamwork across four quarters. MD2 fought hard in a high-scoring contest against Penrith but were unable to come away with the result, while WD1 faced a tough challenge against Randwick. Overall, there were still plenty of positives to take from the weekend as the club continues to build momentum throughout the season.

Men’s Division 6

Result:

East Coast 15.8- 98 to Southern Power 1.5 – 11

From The Coach:

The Division 6 squad delivered one of their most complete performances of the season on the weekend, recording a 15.8 (98) to 1.5 (11) victory over Southern Power at Waratah Oval. After recent weeks of missed opportunities in front of goal, the Eagles finally found their accuracy, with 11 individual goal scorers. The Eagles were boosted by the inclusion of Division 2 squad members Liam Bastin and Alex O’Brien, who had an immediate impact. Bastin provided a strong tall target up forward, while O’Brien gave the midfield plenty of drive and clean service through the middle of the ground. The midfield group once again set the tone from the outset, with new starting midfielder Jarrod Stone creating speed, pressure and multiple attacking options around the contest. Defensively, the Eagles’ back six continued their strong form, restricting Southern Power to just one goal for the match while also executing the side’s transition ball movement exceptionally well. Their ability to move the ball from defence into the midfield and forward line created repeated scoring opportunities throughout the afternoon. With the Eagles controlling possession for long periods, the small forwards — LA, Jordy, Harro and Birchy — played a major role both offensively and defensively. Their forward pressure consistently locked the ball inside attacking 50 and eventually translated into scoreboard reward, while also creating opportunities for teammates to hit the scoreboard. The only sour note from the afternoon was a head injury suffered by Jude during the match. The club wishes him a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back out on the paddock once he has completed the required concussion protocols. The Eagles now turn their attention to next week’s clash at Mac Uni, where they will look to reverse the result from their previous meeting and further consolidate their place inside the top four.
