From The Coach:

MPD started strongly against SWS, controlling the game for the first half but we were not able to show this on the scoreboard. The second half saw SWS come over the top of us, and our young side couldn’t go with them. Huge positives in Dossy collecting 46 disposals and Jacob 38 disposals. We move onto St George in a game where we look to take our first 4 points for the year on the road.

Men’s Division 2

Result:

East Coast 11.11- 77 to Randwick 7.7 – 49

From The Coach:

Big result for the Eagles on the weekend, getting the job done over Randwick City Saints 77–49 in front of a great home crowd. Randwick came out strong early and got the jump, leading by 10 at quarter time. We settled in the second, tightened things up around the contest and worked our way back in to take a narrow lead into half time. From there, it was all Eagles! A big third quarter saw us open up a handy lead, before a dominant final term blew the game open and sealed a convincing 28-point win. It was a genuine team performance, with everyone playing their role and lifting as the game went on. The effort, pressure and connection across the ground really stood out, particularly after quarter time, and we stuck to the plan to get the result. A great first win for the Eagles and one to build on — even better doing it at home with plenty of support around the ground. A big day for Foxy and his 300th game. The humble man he is would love nothing better than a great victory at home

Men’s Division 6

Result:

East Coast 8.20 – 68 to Newtown 3.2 – 20

From The Coach:

Well, our aim was to always keep control of the game and, you would love to finish it 150–0. Unfortunately, control of a game does not always translate to scoreboard. Whilst the win was solid the scoreboard says 20 behinds. That’s real effort and we’ll have to work on technical. I must recognise and celebrate our control, especially when the opposition starts to build momentum and come back into it. I thought our back six and whoever rolled through there were great. They never lost their nerve and continued to play energised footy. We had spoken about running the ball more and the backs and mids found opportunities, particularly around the wings. It opened the corridor for us occasionally, and you have got to be moving in that direction and playing on the front foot to take advantage of it. Full credit for executing that. I thought our defence was strong across the park for large parts of the game. Relentless was my theme, just keep coming back at them. Some players had to take on big minutes, but the group stayed connected and gave the Mid’s the time and space they needed. We eventually got the points when the opportunity presented, particularly in the second half. I do not want to single out players, but our ruck was outstanding for us, really stepping into the role of holding the middle together. His defensive work was particularly excellent. He attacks around the ruck, understands what the A1’s and D1’s are doing, and allows us to play through that space effectively. Finally…to JLowe.
