Presidents Update

It has been fantastic to see all teams out on the training track this past month. With two weeks until Season 2020 finally kicks off, I could not be more excited to see the Eagles in full flight at our Kanebridge Oval nest.

The COVID-19 crisis has been an unforeseen challenge, but we have combatted it professionally with our first priority being the safety and wellbeing of our players and wider community. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to ensuring that COVID-19 protocols will be followed as they may change.

As the COVID-19 restrictions lessened in NSW, all teams began training last month in protocol approved groups of 10, then 20. However, now the playing group has returned to whole team training with full contact, and this has been allowed since Wednesday July 1st.

What I can also confirm, is that the 2020 season will recommence on Saturday 18th of July, of which the draw will be issued approximately one week prior. The season will be nine weeks of games, before a 3-4 week finals series.

To say that I am excited for Round 1 next Saturday is an understatement!

In addition, we won’t have three Women’s teams in 2020 as previously planned. We will stick with two, one in Premier Division and another in Division One. This year we will again field six strong football sides, and all teams have been working immensely hard on and off the field, throughout both Pre-Season training blocks.

I know that many of our players, coaches and supporters might still have questions regarding areas such as canteen, BBQ, change room access etc. and I don’t have all the answers at the current stage. However, what I can confirm is that volunteers, whilst always crucial, will be even more important this year as the climate and situation may rapidly change on a week-to-week basis. If there are any changes to the 2020 season or COVID-19 imposed conditions from here on out, we will quickly update the wider East Coast Eagles community of these.

Let’s get the ball rolling in 2020 and I can’t wait to catch you at the footy.

Cheers.

David Arndt – Club President.
