Premier Division Reserves – Magoos Ambushed Early And Can’t Make Up Ground
It was a painful day at Gore Hill Oval for the Magoos. Going into the game against an undefeated North Shore Bombers side, the challenge was going to be extremely difficult. We knew that, and we were ready for a Bomber raid. A scoreless first quarter had us behind the 8 ball early, only enhancing our task going forward. North Shore has class coming out of their backsides, a message the club sent the entire league throughout the day, none better showcased in the Ressies game, as the Bombers perfected their shotgun tactic and left our Magoos reeling heading into half-time. We were better in the second half kicking two goals, with Hayden Landels and Mitchell Perl snagging one each, but it continued to be a tough day for our defence, who could not hold out a talented Bomber forward line. Add to this the unfortunate injuries of spiritual leaders Blake Jones and Matty Scholz, and it was a day to forget for the Magoos.

Under 19’s Division One – Eagles Waste Strong Start As Finals Hope Hang By A Thread
It was a disappointing day for the club, and unfortunately our young guns could not change our fortunes, suffering a critical loss to North Shore. With the Under 19s ladder heating up as we drift closer to finals footy, East Coast were hit with a massive blunder in Round 6, unable to put the Bombers to the sword. Despite leading at quarter time, East Coast never had the comfortable lead. North Shore were not worried in the slightest, fighting their way back with far too little resistance, as they quickly took back the lead and went to another gear in the second half. It was like chalk and cheese for the final two quarters, as North Shore flexed their muscle, ultimately winning by 50 points. Youngsters Lachlan Mason, Nathan Fox and Ethan Grace were tremendous in a beaten team, in strong positives out of the game. The finals chances for the Under 19’s are now threadbare, with two MUST-WIN games coming up.
FINAL SCORE: NSB 13.11.89 to ECE 5.9.39
Women’s Division One – North Shore Get The Job Done In Chilly Conditions
On what was a brutally chilly St Leonards Saturday night, our EAGALS battled North Shore in a very important game as the race towards finals heats up. Tough conditions welcomed both sides, and as the rest of the club suffered defeats throughout the day, our EAGALS were the last hopes to salvage a W for the club. Unfortunately, the Bombers were just that little bit better on this day, targeting East Coast from the opening bounce. First Quarters continue to be a crucial factor for the EAGALS, conceding two goals to nil in the opening term, to trail by 15 points. It was this gap, that would prove to big, as we could not get close enough to frighten the Bombers. East Coast could not sustain any momentum, and only inaccurate North Shore goalkicking kept the scores closer then it could have been. Our EAGALS will shake off the loss, and look to get back in the winning column next week against Sydney Uni.
FINAL SCORE: NSB 3.12.30 to ECE 1.2.8
Men’s Division Two – Eagles Go Down In Tough Game After A Trip To Woop Woop
The odds were stacked against the Div 2 Men on the weekend. Tasked with a long trip down to Wollondilly to face the Knights, the match conditions were extremely windy, and we could only field 19 players. The Knights were a confident bunch, but we turned up ready for a fight in the first term, leading by 5 points at quarter time. A big victory looked on the cards early for East Coast, but it was not to be. Wollondilly came back hard with some fire, and quickly found the advantage. The Knights took no mercy in the second half, kicking 6 goals to 2, and gained the win. We had some fantastic contributors despite the loss, with Anthony Bortoli and Michael Boylan (who kicked two goals each) developing into fantastic additions for our Div 2 side going forward. Bad luck lads, onto next week.
